Group vs. 1:1 Programs: Which Builds Impact Faster?
It seems like everyone has a group program or course these days right?
And while you might have one (or are tempted to start one), there are three questions every Practitioner should ask before deciding where to focus for financial success and sustainable growth.
Here’s what I see too often: Functional Health Practitioners trying to skip ahead with group programs, only to feel overwhelmed, underpaid, and unsure of their next move.
They are missing the mark in MANY ways – and I don’t want this to happen to you.
I get it.
As health professionals, we want to help as many people as possible, so group programs or courses seem like the best way to reach more people.
A group program can also feel like a “safer” option when you’re hesitant to put yourself out there or you’re questioning your ability to help people.
Group programs aren’t right for every Practitioner—and even when they are, there’s a specific time and place to use them in your business.
It’s easy to get distracted by what others are doing and feel like you should do it, too. What you may not know is that the people having great success with group programs or courses didn’t start there.
If you’ve been considering group programs or courses—or you already have them but they aren’t producing the results you want—use these 3 key questions to help you assess if group programs are right for you right now…
#1 – What is your income goal?
Consider this: if you want to make $10K (or more) per month, how many group enrollments would you need?
If your group program is $50, you need 200 enrollments per month. If it’s $300, you need 33 enrollments.
And you’d need to do that every month to hit your goal.
Versus, if you’ve designed profitable 1:1 packages, you might only need to enroll 2–3 clients per month to reach $10K.
Which path sounds easier—and more aligned with the freedom you want?
#2 – Do you have an email list?
Your best bet for selling a group program is your email list. Yes, you can market on social media or with ads. However, those leads are typically cold to lukewarm—they don’t know you well yet, so it takes more touchpoints and time to convert them.
People already in your network know and trust you, which means you have warm leads at your fingertips. Even if your list looks “small,” it’s packed with potential for 1:1 enrollments—the fastest path to financial stability and growth—and it helps you build a larger list to sell group programs or courses to later.
#3 – How do you know what to teach?
Do you have a proven method to teach in a group format? How do you know it works?
This is where 1:1 work becomes critical for group success.
Working 1:1 is not only the fastest path to financial growth from a pricing and enrollment standpoint—it’s also how you refine your niche and define your “signature system” for delivering results. You get to test and tweak your approach, see what concepts translate well to a group, and identify what needs deeper individualized support. (The niche determines the need™.)
This is exactly how I developed my Seasonal Cleanse Challenge and Get Your Gut In Gear group programs.
I focused on building a strong foundation with 1:1 clients first.
From that experience, I launched my semi-annual Seasonal Cleanse Challenge to help more people while working smarter—not harder—and to naturally nurture a handful of participants into my 1:1 programs.
Eventually, I launched the Gut In Gear group program for Cleanse participants who needed a next step but weren’t ready or ideal for 1:1 work.
A foundation is vital to building any solid structure—physically or metaphorically.
I’ve got TWO free resources to help you build that foundation with 1:1 clients—so you can later develop successful group programs and courses to scale your business even more…
